Identity verification settings in BoldSign

Published:
2 mins read

In BoldSign, senders have the ability to enable identity verification for signers, ensuring secure authentication before accessing documents. Here’s a comprehensive overview of the identity verification settings available in BoldSign:

  1. Identity verification frequency
  2. Number of verification attempts
  3. Name-match tolerance level
  4. Allowed ID documents
  5. Allowed countries
  6. Require selfie check
  7. Require live document capture

Identity verification frequency

Customize the frequency of identity authentication for signers accessing documents. Options include:

  • Every Access: Signers must undergo identity authentication each time they access the document, even after completing their signature.
  • Until Signed: Identity authentication is required until the signer completes their signature. After which, they will not need to undergo identity authentication again.
  • Once per Document: Signers authenticate their identity only once, even if accessing the document multiple times.

By default, Every Access is selected as the identity verification frequency.

Number of verification attempts

Signers are allowed a maximum of 10 verification attempts, after which access to the document is restricted. By default, the verification limit is set to 3 but can be adjusted to any value between 1 and 10. Senders can reset failed signers for additional attempts and manually review failed document uploads for approval or rejection.

Name-match tolerance level

Define the tolerance level for matching the signer’s name with the name on the uploaded identification document. Options include:

  • Strict: Minimal variations are permitted, adhering to strict matching rules.
  • Moderate: Moderate matching rules allow for variations in the middle, prefix, and suffix parts of the name.
  • Lenient: Relaxed matching rules accommodate minor spelling mistakes for increased flexibility.

By default, the Strict option is selected as the name-match tolerance level.

BoldSign does not support the extraction of document fields in Arabic, Chinese, Cyrillic, Greek, Hebrew, Japanese, Korean, Tamil, or Thai scripts.

Allowed ID documents

Choose which identity documents signers can submit during verification. By default, Passport and Driver's license are enabled. If your policy allows national IDs, you can also enable National ID Card to accept government‑issued national identity cards approved by the issuing country.

Supported types

The following identity document categories are supported for verification:

  • Passport
  • National ID Card
  • Driver’s License

The National ID Card option is a general category that covers nationally issued identity cards recognized by the verification provider.

Only these categories can be configured. Selecting or limiting to a specific national ID variant under National ID Card is not supported.

Allowed countries

Specify which issuing countries are accepted for identity documents. By default, documents from all supported issuing countries are allowed. If you configure this setting, only documents issued by the selected countries will be accepted. This is managed in Business Profile settings and applies across your account.
Leverage this control to meet regional compliance needs or to reduce review effort by focusing on your operating regions. If you don’t require country-specific restrictions, keep the default to accept all supported issuing countries.

Require selfie check

Advanced machine learning algorithms ensure facial recognition accuracy by comparing the photo on the ID with the selfie image, preventing the use of stolen identity documents. This option is enabled by default, but it can be turned off if necessary.

Require live document capture

Mandate signers to capture a live image of their identification document using their device camera. This verifies the document’s authenticity and originality, preventing the use of photos or photocopies. This option is enabled by default but can be switched off if the user requires.

By configuring these identity verification settings in BoldSign, senders can ensure robust security measures tailored to their specific document authentication needs.
