How can you use read-only settings in dropdown form fields?

When sending out documents to sign, you may want some parts to stay the same. With BoldSign, you can mark dropdown menus as read-only, so what’s already filled in can’t be changed. This feature helps maintain control over what the signer can and cannot edit. A read-only dropdown field in BoldSign allows you to pre-fill a value that the signer can view but not change.
Setting a dropdown field as read-only
To configure a dropdown field as read-only in BoldSign, follow these steps:
- Create or Edit a Document: Navigate to your BoldSign dashboard and either create a new document or edit an existing one.
- Add a Dropdown Field: Drag and drop the dropdown field into your document at the desired location.
- Configure the Dropdown Options: Set the list of options that will appear in the dropdown.
- Set the Default Value: Choose a default value from the dropdown options. This value will be pre-selected when the signer views the document.
- Make the Field Read-Only:
- In the field properties panel, locate the option labeled “Read Only”.
- Check the box to enable the read-only setting.
Once set as read-only, the dropdown field will display the default value to the signer, but they will not be able to alter it.
Use cases for read-only dropdown fields
- When you want to show information but prevent changes by the signer.
- When the dropdown value is pre-determined or fixed by the sender.
- When you need to display official status or data that must stay consistent.
In short: use read-only dropdowns whenever the value should be visible but not editable by the user.
