What are the key highlights of an edited document audit trail?

Published:

A Document Editing audit trail provides a detailed record of all changes made to a document before it is finalized. It helps ensure transparency and accountability by capturing who made edits, what was changed, and when those changes occurred. This is especially important in workflows where documents are modified after being sent—such as updating form fields, replacing files, or changing recipients.
Once the document is completed, the audit trail becomes available for download, offering a trustworthy and traceable record of all editing actions.

The audit trail includes the following information:

  • Document Information: Includes details such as document ID, name, type, status, title, signing order, page count, and timestamps for when the document was sent and completed.
  • Sender and Recipient Information: Captures the names, email addresses, IP addresses, and devices used by all participants involved in the document workflow…
  • Document Editing Activity: Logs all edits made to the document, including:
    • Who made the edits.
    • The exact timestamp of the changes.
    • The IP address and device used.
    • Specific modifications such as:
      • Recipients added or removed.
      • Document files updated.
      • Form fields modified.
  • Signature Information: Specifies the type of signature applied by each signer (e.g., typed, drawn, uploaded) and their consent to electronic disclosures.
  • Timestamps: Provides precise logs of all actions, including sending, viewing, signing, editing, and document completion.
  • User Activity Log: Tracks each user’s actions, such as viewing the document, signing, and responding to edits. This ensures full visibility into the document’s lifecycle.
