How to mask sensitive information in a textbox form field on the mobile app?

Published:

The mask text feature in the BoldSign mobile app helps document senders protect sensitive information entered by signers in text fields. When this option is enabled, the field value is visible only to the sender and the signer who enters it. All other signers and CC recipients will see the value as a masked entry, ensuring confidentiality.

This feature is especially valuable in multi-signer workflows where privacy is essential, such as collecting identification details, financial information, or other sensitive codes.

How to enable mask value for a text field

Follow the steps below to enable mask value for a textbox form field while creating a document:

  1. Create a new document or template
  2. Configure the initial settings, including adding recipients and defining the signing order.
  3. Navigate to the Configure Fields screen
  4. Drag and drop a Textbox field onto the document
  5. In the Textbox Settings, enable the Mask value option

Viewing masked text values

The rules for viewing the masked text values are:

  • Only the assigned signer and the document sender can see the unmasked value.
  • All other signers and CC recipients will always see masked characters (e.g., ********).

Signer view

During signing, only the assigned signer can view the information they enter in a masked field. The value stays hidden from all other signers and CC recipients, ensuring that only the intended signer and the sender can see the unmasked data.

The sender can view the masked value by opening the document from View Document and tapping the eye icon to view the unmasked text.
