How to self-sign a document with Qualified Electronic Signature (QES) enabled?

Published:

BoldSign supports Qualified Electronic Signature (QES) for self-signing, allowing users to sign their own documents with the highest level of electronic signature assurance under the EU eIDAS regulation.

Prerequisites for QES self-signing

Before using Qualified Electronic Signature (QES) for self-signing, ensure the following prerequisites are met:

  • QES is enabled for your BoldSign account.
  • Your organization has access to a supported Qualified Trust Service Provider (QTSP).
  • The selected QTSP supports eIDAS-compliant qualified signatures.
  • You have a valid qualified certificate, or the QTSP can issue one during the signing process.
  • You are able to complete the required identity verification, as mandated by the QTSP.
  • The signer meets regional and regulatory requirements for QES signing.

Supported Qualified Trust Service Providers

BoldSign integrates with selected eIDAS-compliant Qualified Trust Service Providers, such as Evrotrust, to enable QES self-signing. Availability may differ based on region and account configuration.

  • Personal ID verification: Enter your national or personal ID number as required by your country. Evrotrust verifies it against its records, after which you can sign the document using the Evrotrust app.
  • Mobile number verification: Enter the mobile number linked to your Evrotrust account. Approve the verification request sent to the Evrotrust app to continue signing.
  • Email verification: Enter your registered email address. Open the Evrotrust app and approve the verification request to complete the signing process.
  • After verification, you will be redirected to a processing dialog which displays a timer, verification ID, transaction ID, and a Withdraw Request link.
  • The Withdraw Request option allows you to cancel the signing process if you decide not to proceed.

Verification process

  • If you choose to proceed with signing, you will receive a notification on your Evrotrust app prompting you to sign the document.
  • Tap Sign for free to complete the signing process.

Step 6: Download the signed document

  • Once approved in the app, the document is digitally signed, and the signer is redirected to BoldSign’s signing completion page.

Completion page

  • The document will be marked as Signed.
  • Once completed, the document is sealed with a qualified digital certificate and includes verifiable proof of compliance.

QES certificate

  • This makes QES self-signing suitable for contracts, declarations, and regulated documents that require the highest level of trust.
  • QES self-signing is available only in regions supported by the selected Qualified Trust Service Provider (QTSP).
  • Identity verification methods may vary depending on your country and QTSP policies.
  • You must complete the signing process within the time window provided by the QTSP.
  • If identity verification fails, the signing process must be restarted.
  • BoldSign does not store or manage qualified certificates; all certificate-related operations are handled by the QTSP.
