What are form field configuration validation alerts and how do they work?

Form field configuration validation alerts help senders identify and fix invalid form field settings before sending documents for signature. Issues are highlighted directly on the configure fields page, helping prevent errors and ensure a smooth signing experience.
Invalid fields are marked with red borders and inline error messages are displayed for quick correction.
How it works?
- Open a document and go to the
Configure Fieldspage. - Add or edit form fields as needed.
- If a field is configured incorrectly, for example:
- Image field without a title.
- Attachment field without a title.
- Formula field without an expression.
- Dropdown field without values.
- When you try to send the document, a configuration issue prompt appears showing:
- The total number of errors.
- Navigation arrows to move between affected fields.
- Selecting an invalid field highlights it with a red border, and an error message is displayed in the settings panel on the right, as shown in the screenshot below.
- Update the field configuration as instructed by the error message.
- Once all fields are updated with the proper settings, the validation alerts are removed, and the document can be sent successfully.
Data sync validation alerts
Validation is also performed for data‑synced text boxes. Fields that share the same Data Sync Tag must use compatible validation rules.
Example
- Two text boxes are multi selected and assigned the same
Data Sync Tag.
- One text box allows numbers only, while the other has no validation rule.
- This mismatch causes a configuration error.
What happens when sending the document?
- When you attempt to send the document, a field configuration error will be displayed.
- The affected fields are highlighted, and a clear error message is shown to help identify the issue as illustrated below.
You can:
- Update the validation rules to make them consistent, or
- Sync and correct the validation directly from the field settings.
- If you choose to sync the values using the prompt shown in the image above, the validation rule applied to the currently selected text box will be automatically applied to the remaining synced fields.
Once the validation rules match, the alert is removed and the document can be sent successfully.
