How to send a document with KBA authentication?

Published:

Knowledge-based authentication (KBA) adds an identity authentication step before a signer can access and sign a document. When KBA is enabled for a signer, the signer must provide legal identity information and answer security questions before continuing to the document.

Steps to send a document with KBA authentication

To send a document with KBA authentication, follow these steps:

  1. Create a new document

Click the Create New button and select the option to create a new document.

  1. Upload the document

Upload the file that needs to be signed.

  1. Add signer details

Enter the signer’s name and email address. Make sure the signer’s name matches their legal identity details, since KBA can compare the name in BoldSign with the identity details provided during authentication.

KBA is available only for U.S.- based recipients.

  1. Enable authentication

Open the signer settings or authentication settings for the signer. Enable Authentication and select the KBA authentication option.

  1. Configure KBA settings

Review and update the KBA settings as needed:

    • Default KBA frequency: Controls how often the signer must complete KBA when accessing the document.
    • Number of retries: Defines how many times the signer can retry KBA before access is restricted.
    • Name-match tolerance level: Controls how strictly BoldSign compares the signer’s name with the identity details provided during KBA.

Configure KBA Settings

  1. Proceed to the document fields page

Click Next to continue to the document preparation page.

Click Next

  1. Add fields and send the document

Add the required signature, date, text, or other fields for the signer. After reviewing the document, click Send.

Click Send

After the document is sent, the signer receives the signing request. When the signer opens the document, BoldSign prompts the signer to complete KBA before they can access and sign the document.

If the signer fails KBA and reaches the maximum number of allowed attempts, the document is locked for that signer. The sender can reset KBA authentication or remove authentication from the signer if needed.
