What is KBA name-match tolerance level?

Published:

KBA name-match tolerance level controls how BoldSign compares the signer’s name with the identity details provided during knowledge-based authentication (KBA).

This setting helps ensure that the person completing KBA is the same signer who was added to the document.

Name match tolerance

Why name matching is important?

  • During KBA, the signer provides legal identity information before security questions are generated. Name matching compares the signer name in BoldSign with the name in the identity details provided by the signer.

  • We recommend keeping name matching enabled for KBA. This helps avoid potential issues where the person attempting KBA provides identity details that do not match the signer added to the document.

Name-match tolerance options

BoldSign supports the following KBA name-match tolerance levels:

  1. None

    • Name matching is not performed.

    • Use this option only when your signing workflow intentionally does not require the signer’s name to be compared with the identity details provided during KBA.

  2. Strict

    • The signer’s name must closely match the identity details with minimal or no variation.

    • Use this option when the signer name must match as accurately as possible.

  3. Moderate

    • Minor variations, such as a middle name, initial, or small formatting difference, may be allowed.

    • Use this option when strong matching is required but common name variations are expected.

  4. Lenient

    • More flexible matching is allowed for minor spelling or formatting differences.

    • Use this option when signer names may contain small differences but you still want BoldSign to perform name comparison.

Choosing the right tolerance level

For most workflows, use Strict, Moderate, or Lenient instead of None.

  • Use Strict for high-security documents.
  • Use Moderate when names may include initials, middle names, or small formatting differences.
  • Use Lenient when small spelling or formatting differences are expected.
  • Use None only when your workflow does not need name comparison.

If the name entered during KBA does not match the signer name based on the configured tolerance level, the signer may be asked to correct the information or may be blocked from continuing.

Before sending a document with KBA, make sure the signer name entered in BoldSign is accurate and matches the signer’s legal name as closely as possible.
