How to print and sign a document in the BoldSign mobile app?

The Print and Sign feature allows recipients to sign a document manually instead of using an electronic signature. When enabled by the sender, recipients can download the document, print it, add a handwritten signature, and return the signed copy to the sender for upload and verification.

Steps to enable print and sign for recipients

To allow recipients to use the print and sign option, the sender must enable it when creating the document.

  • Tap Create New and select Create New Document.
  • Configure the document, recipients, and fields.
  • Open Document Settings.
  • Enable Allow signers to print and sign.

  • Tap Send.

Once enabled, recipients can access the print and sign option during the signing process.

Print and sign a document as a recipient

If the sender has enabled the print and sign option, follow these steps:

  • Open the document for signing.
  • Tap More Actions in the top-right corner of the signing page.
  • Select Print & Sign

  • In the confirmation dialog, tap Yes, Proceed.

  • The print and sign process is initiated.

  • Tap Download document to download the document to your device.

  • Exit the signing page.
  • Print the downloaded document and sign it manually.
  • Scan the signed document.
  • Send the scanned copy to the sender using your agreed communication channel.

The recipient’s part of the signing process is now complete.

  • When a recipient initiates the print and sign process, all other recipients are prevented from signing the document until the process is completed.
  • The hyperlink field is not included in the downloaded document and will not be displayed.

Upload the signed document

After receiving the scanned copy, the sender must upload it to continue the workflow.

  • Open Documents.
  • Select the document that was printed and signed.
  • Tap Upload Scanned Document.

  • Select and upload the scanned copy received from the recipient.
  • Review the document and verify that all fields are correctly aligned.
  • Select the confirmation checkbox.
  • Tap Confirm field positions.

The uploaded document is validated and added to the signing workflow.

What happens after uploading the signed document?

After the scanned document is uploaded and confirmed:

  • The print and sign process is completed.
  • The recipient’s handwritten signature is added to the document record.
  • The document continues through the remaining signing workflow.
  • Remaining recipients can continue signing the document.
  • All actions are recorded in the document history for tracking and audit purposes.
