How to sign a document with KBA authentication in the BoldSign mobile app

Published:

Knowledge-Based Authentication (KBA) helps verify your identity before you can access and sign a document. When a sender enables KBA, you must provide identity information and correctly answer security questions based on publicly available records before you can open the document.

After successfully completing the verification process, you can review and sign the document.

To complete KBA verification

  • Open the signature request email and tap Review and Sign.
  • Alternatively, open the document from the Documents section and tap Sign Now.
  • You will be directed to the KBA authentication screen to access the document.
  • Review the verification instructions, select the consent checkbox, and tap Begin verification.

The Begin verification button is enabled only after you provide consent.

Troubleshooting KBA verification

If KBA verification cannot be completed, BoldSign displays the reason and the next available action.

Common Scenarios

  • Session expired: If the KBA session expires before you submit your answers, you can restart the verification process, provided retry attempts are still available.
  • Verification failed: If your answers are incorrect, you can try again if you still have remaining verification attempts.
  • Maximum attempts reached: If you exceed the allowed number of attempts, access to the document is restricted. Contact the sender for assistance.

Verification failed

  • The sender can either reset the KBA authentication process or remove KBA authentication for the document if it is no longer required.
