How to manage biometric authentication in the BoldSign mobile app?

Published:

The BoldSign mobile app supports biometric authentication, including Fingerprint, Face Unlock, and device PIN/passcode verification. This feature adds an extra layer of security by requiring identity verification before accessing the app.

This feature is available on supported Android and iOS devices. You can manage biometric authentication from Profile → App Settings, including options such as Auto-Lock and Require Biometric Every Time.

Enable biometric authentication

To enable biometric authentication in the BoldSign mobile app:

  • Open the Profile tab from the bottom navigation bar.

Profile

  • Navigate to App Settings.

  • Turn on Enable Biometrics.

Disable biometric authentication

To disable biometric authentication:

  • Tap Profile → App Settings.
  • Turn off Enable Biometric Authentication.
  • Verify your identity using your fingerprint, Face ID, Face Unlock, or device PIN/passcode.
  • Tap Save Changes.

For security reasons, identity verification is required before biometric authentication can be disabled.

Auto-Lock settings

The Auto-Lock setting determines when authentication is required after the app moves to the background.

Immediately

The app locks as soon as you leave it or switch to another application. Authentication is required every time you return to the app.

Custom

The app remains accessible for the selected duration (1 to 60 minutes) after it moves to the background.

  • If you return within the configured duration, authentication is not required.
  • After the selected duration expires, authentication is required to access the app again.

Auto-Lock helps protect your account when the app is left unattended.

Require biometric every time

  • The Require verification when app opens setting provides the highest level of security.
  • When enabled, BoldSign requires biometric authentication or device PIN/passcode verification every time the app is opened, regardless of the configured Auto-Lock duration.

Biometric authentication requirements

Biometric authentication may not be available in the following situations.

Device does not support biometric

If your device does not support biometric authentication, a validation message appears when you try to enable the feature.

Biometric are not configured on the device

If your device supports biometric authentication but no fingerprint, Face ID, Face Unlock, or device credential has been configured:

  • A Set Up Biometric Authentication dialog appears.
  • Click Go to Settings.
  • Configure a supported biometric method or device credential on your device.
  • Return to the BoldSign app.
  • Enable biometric authentication from Profile → App Settings.

You can also tap Not Now and configure biometric authentication later.

Authentication methods

BoldSign uses the authentication methods configured on your device. The authentication prompt displayed depends on your device and operating system.

For example:

  • Devices configured with Face ID or Face Unlock may prompt for facial authentication first.
  • Devices configured with Fingerprint authentication may prompt for fingerprint verification.
  • If biometric authentication is unavailable or unsuccessful, the device may allow authentication using a configured PIN, Passcode, or Pattern.
  • Authentication behavior may vary between Android and iOS devices.

When authentication is required?

BoldSign may display an authentication prompt in the following scenarios:

  • When Require Biometric Every Time is enabled and you open the app.
  • When you reopen the app after the configured Auto-Lock duration has expired.
  • When you reopen the app after using the Immediately Auto-Lock option.
  • When you disable biometric authentication.
  • When authentication is required after the app has been running in the background.

What happens when you sign out?

For security reasons, biometric settings are stored locally on the device and are automatically removed when you sign out of the BoldSign mobile app.

The following settings are cleared when you sign out:

  • Enable Biometric Authentication
  • Require Biometric Every Time
  • Auto-Lock preferences

After signing in again, biometric authentication is disabled by default. To continue using this feature, enable biometric authentication again from Profile → App Settings.
