How to automatically place form fields using text tags in the BoldSign Mobile App?

Published:

Text Tags are placeholders inserted into a document that BoldSign automatically detects and converts into form fields during document preparation. Instead of manually adding fields, you can use Text Tags to automatically place fields such as signatures, initials, dates, and text fields in the required locations.

Text Tags are particularly useful when preparing documents on mobile devices because they help ensure consistent field placement and reduce manual effort.

Add Text Tags to the document

Before BoldSign can automatically detect and create form fields, you must first insert the appropriate Text Tags into the document at the locations where the fields should appear. During document preparation, BoldSign detects these Text Tags and converts them into the corresponding form fields.

For example:
Add the following Text Tags directly to your document:

  • Customer Name: {{text|1|*|Full Name|customer_name}}
  • Company Name: {{company|1|}}
  • Signature: {{sign|1|}}
  • Initials: {{init|1|*}}
  • Date Signed: {{date|1|}}

When the document is uploaded and converted, BoldSign automatically generates:

  • A required text field for Customer Name
  • A Company field
  • A Signature field
  • A required Initial field
  • A Date Signed field

If Text Tags are not added to the document, form fields must be placed manually using the field configuration screen.

Hide Text Tags

  • After the Text Tags are converted into fields, the tags are not removed from the document.
  • To hide Text Tags, set the Text Tag font color to match the document background color. For example, use white text on a white background so the tags are not visible in the document.
  • This approach keeps the Text Tags hidden from view while still allowing BoldSign to detect and process them correctly.

The Text Tags remain in the document and are only visually hidden.

The following form fields support Text Tags in the BoldSign mobile app:
