Can I change the brand assigned to a sender identity?

Published:

A sender identity can be associated with a BrandId when it is created. This brand is used for sender identity approval and management workflows.

Currently, BoldSign does not support changing the BrandId of an existing sender identity. The POST /v1/senderIdentities/update endpoint does not include a parameter for updating the associated BrandId.

What happens if a sender identity has no BrandId?

Some sender identities may have been created without a BrandId. In such cases, the senderIdentities/list API may return no BrandId value for the sender identity.

When a sender identity does not have an associated BrandId:

  • Sender identity approval emails use BoldSign’s default branding.
  • Sender identity rejection emails use BoldSign’s default branding.
  • Sender identity revocation emails use BoldSign’s default branding.
  • Sender identity approval pages use BoldSign’s default branding.

Sender identities created without a BrandId do not inherit the account’s default brand.

Why can’t the BrandId be changed?

  • Once a sender identity is created, its assigned BrandId cannot be modified through the API or the BoldSign application.
  • As a result, existing sender identities cannot be moved from one brand to another.

What is the workaround?

If you need to use a different brand with a sender identity:

  1. Delete the existing sender identity.
  2. Create a new sender identity using the required BrandId.
  3. Complete the sender identity approval process.

Important: Recreating a sender identity sends a new approval request to the sender’s email address.

How do I create a new sender identity with a different BrandId?

When creating the new sender identity, specify the required BrandId during creation.

  • Existing sender identities cannot be migrated to another brand.
  • The POST /v1/senderIdentities/update endpoint does not support updating the BrandId.
  • Sender identities created without a BrandId continue to function normally.
  • The account’s default brand is not automatically applied when a sender identity has no BrandId.
  • Creating a new sender identity sends a new approval request to the sender’s email address.
  • The sender identity must be approved before it can be used.

To use a different brand, create a new sender identity with the required BrandId and complete the approval process. Existing sender identities cannot be updated to use a different brand, and sender identities without a BrandId use BoldSign’s default branding for approval and management workflows.
