How to automatically deliver completed signed documents to your application?

Published:

You can use BoldSign webhooks to automatically retrieve completed signed documents and store them in your application. This eliminates the need to manually download documents from BoldSign and makes completed documents available to users within your application.

This solution is intended for developers who integrate BoldSign with their applications and need automatic access to completed signed documents.

Before you begin

Ensure that:

  • Your application can send documents through a BoldSign integration.
  • A webhook endpoint is available to receive webhook events.
  • Access to a BoldSign API key or credentials that can be used to call the document download endpoint.

Configure automatic document delivery

Step 1: Configure a webhook endpoint

To receive document status updates:

  1. Create a webhook endpoint in your application.
  2. Configure the webhook in BoldSign.
  3. Refer to Webhook Configuration and Lifecycle for instructions on configuring and managing webhooks in BoldSign.
  4. Subscribe to document events, including the Completed event.
  5. Verify that your application can successfully receive webhook notifications.

Step 2: Send documents through BoldSign

  1. Send documents using your existing BoldSign integration.
  2. Once the document is sent, BoldSign will notify your application when subscribed events occur.

Step 3: Download completed documents

When a document reaches the Completed status:

  • Receive the Completed webhook event when the signing process finishes. To verify that the event was delivered successfully, see How to View the webhook events from the webhook dashboard page?
  • Identify the completed document using the webhook payload.
  • Download the completed document using the document download endpoint.
  • Store the document in your application.

For a detailed walkthrough of automatically downloading completed documents using webhook callbacks, refer to:

  • The Completed webhook event is triggered when all signing activities are finished.
  • Use the document details included in the webhook payload to identify the document that should be downloaded.

Result

After the workflow is configured:

  • BoldSign sends a Completed webhook notification when a document is fully signed.
  • Your application automatically downloads the completed document.
  • The completed document is stored in your application.
  • Authorized users can access the completed document directly from your application.
  • Completed documents can be made available in near real time, depending on your application’s processing workflow.
  • Your application must be able to reliably receive and process webhook requests.
  • The Completed event is triggered only after all signing activities have been completed.
  • Document availability depends on your application’s webhook handling, download process, and storage implementation.
  • Processing delays within your application may affect when completed documents become available to users.
