How to create a counteroffer workflow using Collaborative Field Editing?

Published:

Collaborative Field Editing can be used to create a counteroffer-style workflow for negotiating values in form fields. While BoldSign does not provide a dedicated real estate counteroffer workflow, collaborative fields can be used to route documents back and forth when field values are modified.

This approach is useful for negotiations involving values such as pricing, dates, quantities, or other terms that can be represented using form fields.

How does the workflow work?

When a signer modifies a collaborative field and Require Approval for Changes is enabled, the document is automatically routed back to the previous signer for review and approval.

This allows participants to review, revise, and approve field value changes before the document is completed.

Configure the workflow

Step 1: Configure signing order

  1. Add the first participant as the first signer.
  2. Add the second participant as the next signer.
  3. Enable Signing Order.

Step 2: Configure the collaborative field

  1. Add a Collaborative Text Field to the document.
  2. Enable Require Approval for Changes.
  3. Send the document for signature.

Step 3: Enter the initial value

  1. The first signer enters the initial value in the collaborative field.
  2. The first signer completes signing.

Step 4: Update the shared value

  1. The next signer reviews the collaborative field value.
  2. If changes are required, the signer updates the value.
  3. The signer completes signing.

Step 5: Review the updated value

  1. The previous signer receives the document again for review.
  2. The signer can approve the change or update the value again.
  3. If additional changes are made, the document is routed back to the other signer.

Review the Updated value

Step 6: Complete the document

  1. Review the final field value.
  2. Complete signing without making additional changes.

Once all required participants sign without modifying the collaborative field again, the document is completed automatically.

Do changes trigger additional review cycles?

Yes. Every time a participant modifies a collaborative field with Require Approval for Changes enabled, the document is routed back to the previous signer for review.

This process can continue as many times as necessary until all parties agree on the final value.

  • Signing Order must be enabled.
  • The document must contain at least one Collaborative Text Field
